Tri-Maine Race Tours
made possible by Google Earth software

Ever wonder what the race course really looks like?

Sick of those boring, flat maps you see for all other races?

If you would like a more comprehensive and realistic look at our bike courses, download our Tri-Maine Google Earth file and experience all the races in a brand-new, exciting way. You must have Goggle Earth installed on your computer and an internet connection to view the course maps.

If you do not have Google Earth, it is available for free download at

http://earth.google.com/download-earth.html.

A few suggestions :

  • If you do not have the newest version of Google Earth (4.02), update your current software. This will provide much greater detail and performance.
  • Upon opening the “Tri-Maine Race Series 2007” file (from our website), you will see a series of panels on the left side of the screen and the satellite imagery on the right. Under the bottom panel marked “Layers,” be sure to check the box for “terrain” and “roads.”
  • In the options section of Google Earth (Tools > Options), click on the 3D View tab - under terrain quality, change the elevation exaggeration to 3 (out of 3).
  • In the touring section (Tools > Options > Touring), play around with the driving directions touring options for different tour speeds and angles. Recommended settings:
    • Camera tilt angle: 65.0 degrees
    • Camera range: 210.0 meters
    • Speed: 130.0 (relatively slow)

Once you find your favorite settings, experience a tour of our courses! Using the left sidebar, expand the race of your choice. Make sure all boxes are checked for the specific race and then scroll down to the Bike Tour icon. Double Click and press the play button right below the icon. Your own personal helicopter ride!
