Two Hundred Turn out to Walk, Eat, Indulge
PORTLAND, ME – October 27, 2008 – The first-ever Wine Flight 5k proved that being active and eating well really do go together. Two hundred individuals participated in the 3.1-mile lifestyle event on Sunday morning in Portland.
Starting and ending at the Maine State Pier, Flight participants followed a scenic city course around the East End and along the Eastern Promenade. Between each mile-long loop, participants sampled bites and tastes from local vendors: Rosemont Market provided season-fresh apples, pears, and vegetables for the first food stop; K Horton Specialty Foods served salmon wheels along with premium cheese from Cabot at food stop number two; and Big Sky Bakery and Bresca offered desserts for the final tasting alongside Lindt’s chocolate truffles. A final wine tasting by Devenish wines topped off the event celebration at Sebago Brewing Company.
Participants came in couples and groups and experienced the active tasting with dogs and kids in tow. The nice weather and excellent food made for a successful event. Beneficiaries from the race included GoGirlsGo and Hardy Girls, Healthy Women.
“There was amazing enthusiasm among the event crowd,” says Melissa Walls of Tri-Maine. “People were enjoying the sights, the company around them, and the delicious spread of food. It was great fun to see active individuals coming together with local food vendors. Everyone was already buzzing about next year!”
