The PolarBear Tri/Duathlon

As the first multisport event of the year, the PolarBear consistently sells out hundreds of entries in a matter of hours, making it one of the most popular races in New England. The hardest part about the race is getting in! The sprint triathlon starts at the Bowdoin College Pool, followed by a picturesque bike course trhough Brunswick and Harpswell, and finishing with an on-road/off-road run that ends behind the Bowdoin Fieldhouse. The duathlon substitutes a 2 mile run for the swim. With registration consistently over 400 athletes, the Irobnear is the premier early season event. A portion of the proceeds are given to the Bowdoin College Common Good Grant Program, which supports a number of local charities in the Brunswick area. |

The WildBear Tri/Duathlon

WildBear Results 2007
Launched in 2006, the WildBear has become a must-do sprint for first-timers and seasoned racers alike, giving competitors a unique experience in the Maine lakes region. The 1/3-mile swim takes place in gorgeous Lower Range Pond, with a clean, sandy beach for the start and finish. The 16-mile bike zooms through the bucolic Maine countryside, with farms, rolling hills, and forest along the route. There is a major climb at mile 4 on the bike that everyone will be talking about! The trail is mostly on a wide trail that follows the lake and cuts through beautiful old forests. The WildBear attracts over 300 athletes and is a fundraiser for the Poland Recreation Department.

Shipbuilders 2007 Results
The Shipbuilders Triathlon was established in 1982 and is the second oldest triathlon in the state of Maine. It begins with a one-mile swim in the mighty Kennebec River, followed by a challenging bike course through the hills of North and West Bath, and a rolling run around the City of Bath. The transition and finish take place in the heart of historic Downtown and is a feature event for the Heritage Days Festival, making it a great family event. The Shipbuilders has grown substantially since coming under the management of Tri-Maine – in 2003, registration was 75 athletes; in 2007, registration is anticipated to reach 250 or more. It is a fundraiser for Main Street Bath, a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation of the character of the city’s downtown

The Zone Urban/EPIC

Zone Urban/EPIC Race Results
The Zone Urban/EPIC is the first major triathlon to ever be held in Maine’s largest city. Launched in 2007, the EPIC is positioned as a destination Olympic Distance race for athletes looking for a challenging and unique event experience. Starting from a beach on Mackworth Island, athletes will swim 1 mile to shore, battling Ocean currents, and finish at East End Beach. Next they will run ½ mile to the transition area, located inside a historic boat-building warehouse. The 24-mile out-and-back bike course takes competitors on a ride through the Industrial district of
Portland, followed by a loop around Baxter Boulevard, then north into Falmouth and Cumberland. The 6.2-mile lollipop run course extends onto a bike path, along the waterfront. After the race, there is a Urban Festival at the finish area with live music, art, entertainment, and other exciting elements that showcase Portland’s lifestyle and is open to the public. The Zone Urban/EPIC is also affiliated with Baystock, a major nighttime outdoor concert on the Maine State Pier, which is held that night. The EPIC benefits the Jessie B-C Fund, which supports the Maine Children’s Cancer Program.

The Lobsterman Triathlon

The Lobsterman Triathlon is one of the premier multisport events in New England, consistently recognized nationally by endemic publications, websites, and organizations. In 2004 it was listed as one of the “Top 50 Races in the US” in 2004 by Inside Triathlon (#27). Held at beautiful Winslow Park, in Freeport, this Olympic distance race is the perfect year-end goal race for athletes across the country, throughout Canada, and as far away as Europe. The spectacular venue, the challenging course, and the outstanding volunteer support all make Lobsterman a must-do event. The swim takes place in a warm protected bay (it is actually the warmest water temp of any of our open-water races), and can be completed by athletes of all abilities. After the race, there is a huge lobsterbake with live music, and a beer garden – a fantastic way to finish the season. The Lobsterman benefits the Jessie B-C Fund, which supports the Maine Children’s Cancer Program.

The Pumpkinman Triathlon

The Pumpkinman Triathlon is a sprint distance race with a field size of 250 participants. The race starts at 9:00 AM on Sunday, September 9th, at the Spring Hill Lodge in South Berwick, ME. Each competitor will receive a unique, custom, 100% organic cotton Timberland t-shirt, the best goody bags, imprinted swim cap, custom awards, and a complimentary post-race New England style fall feast featuring clam chowder, pumpkin pie, chili, whoopie pies, and more. It is with great pleasure that we announce the 2007 recipient of a portion of the proceeds as The Marshwood Boosters! The Marshwood Boosters is a local parent-driven organization serving Eliot and South Berwick, Maine and is a non-profit group created to help enhance all the athletic programs within the Marshwood School District. The boosters contribute to athletic programs for both the junior high school and high school by supplying equipment, uniforms, field items, and meals. The Marshwood Boosters have taken the responsibility to support the athletic programs through volunteer efforts and community service.

Noyes Hall & Allen CELT Challenge
The 3rd annual Noyes Hall & Allen CELT Challenge Sprint Triathlon and Duathlon will take place on September 30th at Cape Elizabeth High School at 8:00AM. The sprint triathlon consists of a 425-yard pool swim, a 14-mile bike ride and a 3-mile cross-country trail run. The duathlon features a 1.5-mile run, a 14-mile bike ride and a 3-mile cross- country trail run. A Corporate Teams Competition rounds out the event with 12 teams of three athletes competing against each other, with a different team member completing each leg of the race (swim-bike-run).
The daylong event will also feature a community-wide Harvest Festival that includes an awards ceremony, BBQ, Children’s Activities, Best Tasting Pie Contest, live blue grass music and a local Farmers Market.
The Noyes Hall & Allen CELT Challenge and the Harvest Festival support the Cape Elizabeth Land Trust’s mission of preserving local farmland, forest and recreational trails for the enjoyment and appreciation of this and future generations.
