WICKED FROSTY 5-MILER IS CANCELED

We are very disappointed to have to announce the cancellation of the inaugural Wicked Frosty 5-miler. After days of closely monitoring the impending storm, it has become abudently clear that Saturday will be a mess. The latest prediction has snowfall totals topping 24" in Portland, with gusty winds and cold temps. Not exactly ideal conditions for running a personal best!

At the same time, our permit with the City does not allow a road race when there are plows on the streets, which will almost certainly be the case this weekend.

If you are are registered athlete, you will be receiving an e-mail this afternoon that outlines the options for deferrals and refunds. If you do not receive this, please contact info@tri-maine.com for details.

But all is not lost! We are excited to announce the SUMMER VERSION of this race, taking place in August. Join us for this Thursday night sunset event, which will feature the same great course, and a festive gathering at the finish line. More details about the Maine Running Company Mid-Summer 5-miler will be available in the coming weeks.

Tri-Maine and Maine Running Company are teaming up to present this great new winter event.

9:30 AM Start

Embrace the elements and head out for an exciting downtown road race - The WICKED FROSTY 5-MILER! This fun event is a great opportunity to test your fitness or set an near-term goal - especially if you did not get into the sold-out Mid-Winter Classic.

The Wicked Frosty 5-Miler will be timed by Back40, using the IPICO chip system. Results will be available live on smartphones and mobile devices - click here.

Attend a FREE course preview on Wednesday, January 23 at 6:00 p.m. Meet in the parking lot of 309 Marginal Way next to Play it Again Sports (MRC's future Portland location). Bring a head lamp and wear reflective gear.

CASCO BAY SPORTS PRESENTS:

Looking for an additional challenge beyond the 5-miler? Or a fun race to watch with the kids? Why not take on The SNOWMAN ADVENTURE RACE! Join Caso Bay Sports for this wacky, fun-filled event that involves sledding, biking, and running. Costumes are highly encouraged! Starting and finishing on the Eastern Prom, the SNOWMAN promises high energy, great views, and plenty of laughs.

CAMP SUNSHINE PRESENTS:

If you find yourself overheated after your hard effort in the 5-miler, fear not! At Noon, there will be a Polar Dip in the Atlantic Ocean at East End Beach, benefitting Camp Sunshine. Join hundreds of crazy souls as they charge into the sub-40 degree water. It will be more exciting than a recovery ice bath!

When: Saturday, February 9, 2013. START TIME 9:30 a.m.

Where: Start and Finish at the FUTURE Maine Running Company location at 309 Marginal Way in Portland.

Bib pickup: There will be two times available for bib and chip pick up. The first will be FRIDAY, FEB 8 from 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm at the current Maine Running Company location (on Forest Ave). The secone will be at the race site on SATURDAY, FEB 9 from 8:00 am to 9:15 am. Click here for a map of the FUTURE Maine Running Company location.

Please park along Marginal Way or the commuter lot across from the future Maine Running Company.

Cost: Includes safe, controlled, unique course with volunteer support, aid stations along the route, professional timing and announcing, spectacular start/finish area, post-race food and refreshments, great awards from sponsors, and a lot of fun with hundreds of fellow runners.

You can purchase a technical t-shirt for an additional $15 when you register. Any shirt orders placed after Jan 20 will be shipped to athletes after the race.

Timing: This race will be chip timed using the IPICO system. Please read important instructions for properly using the chip you get - click here for instructions.

Awards will be presented at Maine Running Company's future location (309 Marginal Way) after the race. They will be given to the top 3 Male and Female finishers overall, as well as the top finishers in each age category.

Please note: Because the official course utilizes bike trails, there is a chance that it will be too icy to run on, in which case, we will follow an alternative course. This determination will be made before race morning and announced on the website.

An athlete's guide will be e-mailed to all registered athletes a few days before the race with specific instructions about parking, road closures, etc.

** Walkers are welcome but be aware that the East End Trail portion of the course closes at 11 a.m. because there is another race taking place after that time. There will be volunteers at the finish line to cheer you on!!!
