Scarborough Registration Form (pdf)

Online Registration

The 2008 Scarborough Tri will take place on Sunday, July 13th and will be held at Scarborough Beach State Park and Downtown Scarborough (near Memorial Park).

More information will be available soon.

Date: Sunday, July 13, 2008

Start Time: 8am

Where: Starting at Scarborough Beach State Park and Finishing in downtown Scarborough

Distances: Swim 1/3 mile, Bike 15 miles, Run, 3 miles

Swim

Starting from Scarborough Beach State Park, this 1/3 mile swim on a triangular course is the ideal venue for an ocean swim.  Water temperatures will be in the low 60s so wetsuits are highly recommended. Race management has the right to require wetsuits if deemed necessary. Contact Peak Performance Multisport for information about renting wetsuits. Scarborough Beach is a local surfer’s dream and home to many vacationers in the summer.  It’s one of the most beautiful places in Southern Maine!

Although the swells in mid-July are usually mild, there is the potential for small surf at Scarborough Beach. It is recommended that you have experience in open-ocean swimming conditions. There will be extensie on-water safety during the race. Race management reserves the right to change or eliminate the swim if deemed unsafe.

Bike

After the swim, athletes will run up the beach, onto a short path that leads to the transition area.  After exiting the park, athletes will complete 15 miles on some of the most popular cycling roads in Greater Portland.  The course winds along the smooth, rolling, country roads of Scarborough’s Pleasant Hill Neighborhoods, and then hugs the pristine Maine coastline.  It is a point-to-point bike course, finishing in the heart of downtown Scarborough.    There will be plenty of race staff providing on – course support.

Run

The 3 mile point – to – point run takes place mostly on a newly-updated trail system featuring the Scarborough marshes.  Athletes will enter the trails at the Eastern Road access point.  It’s a mostly flat run finishing next to the Scarborough 350th Anniversary Celebration, a weekend – long festival commemorating the livelihood of the City.  Plan on spending the day partaking in festivities with friends and family!

Timing

The Scarborough Triathlon will be timed by All Sports Events. Full results, including splits, will be available online the same day as the event.

Awards

Top 3 overall male and female, top 3 in each age category (every 5 years, starting with U19). Awards will be presented at the finish area, as part of the 350th Celebration festival at Memorial Park.

Gear Bag

Because this is a point-to-point race, you will be given a numbered gear bag for your swim stuff. When you arrive at T1 during the race, please put your wetsuit and swim gear in the bag and leave it at your transition spot. We will bring your bag back to the finish area, where you can pick it up after the race. Any gear not securely placed inside a bag will be put in the Lost-And-Found pile at the finish area. Tri-Maine is not responsible for any gear not placed in the official gear bag. Please do not put any non-essential items in the bag.

Pre-Race Logistics

With separate transition areas and finish, The Scarborough Triathlon has a number of logistics that you should be aware of. You will be able to drop off your bike on race morning at Scarborough Beach State Park (T1), then you will need to drop off your run gear at T2. Finally you will park near the finish area at the High School. There will be shuttle buses available to transport you from the parking area back to Scarborough Beach for the start.

Recommended Schedule for Race Morning

5:30am-6:15am: Arrive at Scarborough Beach State Park to drop off bike and cycling gear. DON'T FORGET TO LEAVE YOUR GEAR BAG! There will be packet pick-up that morning at the Beach. PLEASE NOTE: There is no parking available for athletes at the Beach! You are required to take shuttle buses to the start from the designated parking areas, or get a ride from friends/family. There is limited parking for spectators (See spectator information).

6:15am-6:45am: Drop off running gear at T2 (29 Black Point Road).

6:45-7:15am: Park car at designated lots and hop on shuttle back to Scarborough Beach

7:30am: Last shuttle bus leaves parking area for swim start. If you miss it, you need to find a ride.

8:00am: RACE BEGINS!

Post-Race Logistics

Following the race, you should walk back to T2, approximately 1/2 mile away from the finish, to collect your bike and gear. T2 will be monitored by race officials until all bikes are taken. Gear bags with your swim gear will be delievered to the designated Gear Bag Claim area near the finish line.
