Tri-Maine Productions is a property of WillPower Enterprises, LLC.

Established in March, 2006, Tri-Maine Productions is the venture of Will Thomas, an experienced triathlete and race director, with years working to promote endurance athletics in Northern New England.

Tri-Maine Productions is an experientially-based, entreprenuerial company based out of Portland, ME. It was formed in response to the growing demand for high-quality multisport events in Maine, as well as the clear opportunity to create a formal race series, complete with rankings, prizes, and social events. The Tri-Maine Race Series was developed through the cooperation of many of the other race directors in the state who are jointly committed to the growth of the sport of triathlon, which is mutually beneficial to all involved - event promoters, athletes, communities, and sponsors. In its first year, The Tri-Maine Race Series far exceeded participation expectations.

Beyond administrating the overall Race Series, Tri-Maine Productions owns and/or produces a number of other multisport properties. These include the PolarBear Tri/Duathlon, one of the most popular races in the country (selling out all its entries in a matter of hours), the Shipbuilders Triathlon, one of the first tris in New England (established 1982), the WildBear Tri/Duathlon, a sprint race on one of the most spectacular venues available, and the Lobsterman Triathlon, which has been consistently voted as among the top 25 events in the US by endemic publications, and the Urban/EPIC. In all, over 2,000 athletes, 600 volunteers, and 5,000 spectators attend Tri-Maine Productions events each season. Additionally, the organization designs and maintains www.tri-maine.com, which features information about all the TRI-Maine races, as well as rules, training, links, injury prevention. The website draws approximately 18-22,000 hits per month.

Beyond producing, marketing, and executing high-quality events, Tri-Maine Productions is committed to other exciting ventures. The company has partnered with a number of charitable organizations with the goal of giving back as much as possible to the communities that support and cultivate the races. These groups include the Jessie Bullens-Crewe Foundation, the Brunswick Parks and Rec Department, the Poland Parks and Rec Department, the Freeport YMCA, the Bowdoin College Common Good Grant Fund, and Main Street Bath. In total, Tri-Maine donated approximately $12,000 to charities in 2006. Tri-Maine was also a sponsor of the outdoor Baystock 2006 Music Feastival in Portland's Old Port, featuring Blues Traveler. The company is involved in the logistical planning of the concert and will have a strong presence at the event.

Our Staff

Will Thomas - Founder and Executive Director

Will has extensive background in event management that began when he organized the first PolarBear Triathlon as a senior at Bowdoin College in 2003. Under his direction, the PolarBear has grown from a grass-roots race of 75 participants to a highly complex event with over 450 athletes, 150 volunteers and two races happening simultaneously. Since graduating from Bowdoin with a double major in Government and Religion and a minor in Economices, Will has been very involved in race production throughout New England over the last five years, with experience managing over 30 different large-scale events.

Beyond race directing, Will has been a swim, triathlon, track, and cross-country coach, a retail manager, a teacher, and a marketing account executive. An avid triathlete, he has competed in over 50 multisport events, including Ironman Lake Placid in 2005, and typically places near the top of the field. In the off-season, Will enjoys telemark skiing. He splits whatever time he has leftover between surfing, hiking, paddling, reading the news, and traveling.

Nicole Pisani - Director of Events

Nicole joined Tri-Maine in February of 2007 and brings a wide range of talents and skills to the company. Graduating from Keene State University with a degree in Health Sciences, Nicole decided to move away from her Connecticut roots to explore Portland and the multisport lifestyle Tri-Maine strives for. In the winter, Nicole enjoys shredding powder at one of the mammoth Maine ski resorts, while surfing the towering waves during the summer months. To fuel her competetive spirit, Nicole mountain bikes regularly and runs with fellow athletes but still has time to relax by reading and cooking.

Peter Miller - Marketing and Communications Manager

Pete Miller, a graduate from Saint Michael’s College in 2007, is the newest addition to the Tri-Maine team. Pete has spent the past year working for Fuse, a Burlington, VT-based youth marketing agency, in the events department. While working with Fuse, Pete has developed a passion for brand promotion and events. He looks to use this passion to drive the Tri-Maine brand further into triathlon community and beyond. His sister, Mary Miller, is becoming a big name in the triathlon world, and his interest in the sport stems from her new-found career (see “Featured Athletes > Mary Miller"). A race this year for Pete? We’ll hold him to it. Pete’s other interests include surfing, skiing, and playing guitar. Check him out at one of the open mics around town or surfing somewhere on the Maine coast.
