Race Info

Venue: Range Pond State Park offers one of the most incredible venues you will find in New England. Bring the whole family and enjoy the day - waterfront swimming, volleyball, BBQ pits, and more. Just 30 miles from Portland and Brunswick and a short drive from Lewiston-Auburn. Less than 2 hours from Boston!

For directions to the park, CLICK HERE.

State Park Use Fee: Everyone entering Range Pond State Park is required to pay a one-day use fee of $4.50. Athletes are NOT covered and need to bring money to pay at the gate. All friends and family should be prepared to pay at the gate as well.

Swim (1/3 mile): Triangular course in beautiful, calm Range Pond. Tons of beachfront for spectators. Swim waves will be determined by age groups and will be posted at a later time. Waves will start 3 minutes apart. The swim will be marked with large orange buoys and will monitored by lifeguards and kayakers. There is a novice wave available as well (indicate your desire to be in this wave on your registration form).

Duathlon Run #1 (2 miles): Off-road out and back on the first part of the triathlon run course. Fast and fun! No water stations on the first run.

Bike (16 miles): Picturesque rolling bike course on low-traffic country roads. One challenging hill at mile 4 (.25 mile at 10%+ grade). Intersections will be well-marked with signs and road paint. Sharp corners will be monitored by volunteers and/or police. There are three railroad crossings, which will be staffed with volunteers. Much of the course has a shoulder, but roads that don't have one have very little traffic on Saturday morning. This is a USA Triathlon sanctioned event, so you must obey the rules pertaining to drafting, passing, positioning, etc. There will be race marshals out on the course looking for rule infringements. See below for more information pertaining to rules.

Run (3.1 miles): An unforgettable run! Flat, fast course (with one short hill). First and last mile off-road on wide, well-maintained trail, middle mile on Empire Road. Aid station at each mile with water and Hammer HEED. Please remember not to discard any wrappers or other trash except at aid stations (otherwise you risk getting a time penalty). Finish at the picnic area, back near the start and transition.

Post-Race/Awards: Enjoy the company of your fellow triathletes and a day at the park. There will be post-race food and an awards ceremony under the big picnic pavilion next to the finish area. Bring a picnic and play some volleyball. Awards will begin at approximately 11am.

Age Categories: Awards will be given to the top 3 male and female finishers overall, and in each age group for both the triathlon and duathlon. Age groups are broken up by 5 year increments: U19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60+. Your age on race day is based on your age as of 12/31/07 (this is a new USAT standard).

USAT Sanctioning: The WildBear is sanctioned by USA Triathlon. If you are not an annual member of USAT, you will be required to pay a $10 fee as part of your entry fee and fill out a waiver at pre-race registration. For more information about USAT, visit www.usatriathlon.org

Rules: This event will follow all rules set forth by USA Triathlon. For complete information about these rules, please visit our RULES CORNER.

Who Benefits: The WildBear is pleased to have partnered with the Poland Parks and Recreation Department as the race beneficiary.

More Information: All registered athletes will receive a detailed pre-race guide that outlines the entire event. This guide will be sent via e-mail approximately 2 weeks before the race. It will also be posted on this website. Please read the guide from last year to get a basic idea of how the race works.
